MALAMPAYA GAS FIELD

The discovery of the Malampaya Gas Field in 1992 by a consortium including Shell and subsequent development to first production in October 2001, provided the impetus for change within the country's natural gas sector, resulting in an increase in investment in the sector.

The project has helped to cut the country's dependence on oil imports by between 20 and 30%

The field is connected to the shore terminal and on-shore gas facility in Tabangoe, Batangas rovince on Luzon Island, through which the field fuels three power plants totalling 2,700MW (19 % of the country's total installed capacity). The field is believed to contain more than 4.3 TCF of gas.
